William J. Knara

William J. “Bill” Knara, 93, of Sugar Grove, IL, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 at Seasons Hospice of Naperville. He was born June 19, 1922 in Aurora, IL to Ladislas and Elizabeth (Wagner) Knara. He was united in marriage to Dorothy K. Windisch on June 21, 1947, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Aurora, IL. They enjoyed sixty-eight years together, raising their five daughters and then traveling, fishing, playing golf, and enjoying their retirement years wintering in Florida and Arizona. Bill was a member of Holy Angels Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WWII, having served four years in the European Theater with the 8th Air Force. He was a Life Member of Montgomery VFW post 7452. He was a member of Moose Lodge 400. Bill worked for forty years in Corporate Management at Lyon Metal Products in Montgomery, IL and the Los Angeles, CA area where he managed that plant. He served as vice president of Valley Industrial Association of Safety Managers. His greatest joy in life was his wife and family and maintaining the genealogy history of the Nickels, Knara and Windisch family trees. Survivors include his loving wife Dorothy Knara; five daughters, Susan (Richard) Koeritz, Joan Konen, Deborah Knara, Karen Knara, Kristine (Stephen) Discianno; twelve grandchildren, Eric (Lydia) and Steven (Jamie) Koeritz, Jennifer, Brigitte and Brian Konen, Ryan, Matthew and Tyler Hawbecker, Megan Ruehle-Knara, Katie, Thomas and Molly Discianno; his sister, Dorothy Wolters; many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth and Catherine and two brothers, Robert and Charles. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 31, 2015 at Holy Angels Church at 10:00 AM. Fr. James Canova will officiate with interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In State visitation will be held Friday, July 31, 2015 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Holy Angels Church, 720 Hardin Ave., Aurora, IL 60506.
