William A. "Bill" Platt, 84, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away early on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at his home. He was born March 24, 1940 in Morris, Illinois to William and Ardith (Olson) Platt.
Bill proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1962 until 1968. He married Sharon Roth at Annunciation Church on February 27, 1965. They spent fifty nine years together.
At the age of eighteen Bill started working at Caterpillar in Joliet, later transferring to the Montgomery plant. He retired from there in 1988 at the age of forty eight with thirty years of service.
He was a member of the Aurora Turner Club, and the Gravely Tractor Club. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and NASCAR, especially if Chevy won. For the past thirty two years he loved spending time at his cottage on the lake in Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife Sharon (Roth) Platt; three children, Monica (Paul) Rathman, Jeffrey Platt, Julie Benson; three grandchildren, Jacob Rathman, Ryan Rathman, Jasmine Benson; his sister, Charmaine Phillips; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ardith (Olson) Platt; his brother, David Platt; a grandson, Lance Clark, a niece, Kimberly Platt, a sister in law Cathy Diehl; and his in laws, Clarence and Marie Roth.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 18, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street Aurora, IL 60506, 630-631-5500.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 12:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY; Fr. Patrick Gillmeyer, O.S.B. will officiate with interment at Lincoln Memorial Park.
