William J. Berger, 80, of Aurora, IL passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025 at AccentCare Hospice Center in Naperville, IL surrounded by his loving family. William was born July 9, 1944 in Prairie Du Chien, WI., the son of Charles and Mary (Richter) Berger. Bill was married April 28, 1962 to Margaret M. (VanBarriger) Berger, and they spent sixty two beautiful years together.
Bill was a master archery coach for the National Field Archery Association, and taught archery classes for many years at the Fox Valley Park District. He was a member of the Auroraland Archery Club, Barber Green Hunting and Fishing Club, and the Batavia Moose. Bill held a deep passion for hunting, and he also enjoyed bowling, fishing and mushroom hunting. Bill loved drag racing his 1967 SS Chevrolet Chevelle in his youth in the 1960's. He loved watching all the many birds flock to his bird feeders. Bill had such a warm and wonderful sense of humor.
Bill's life was always centered around Jesus and his loving family. Bill and Margaret were devoted parishioners of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Aurora.
Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret M. (VanBarriger) Berger; two daughters, Valerie (Rob) Suler, Lisa (Joe) McEachern; four grandchildren, Brian Suler, Kristy Suler, Joey (Laura) McEachern, and Shannon McEachern; three great grandchildren, Liam Suler, Ryan Suler, Nai'a Funkhouser; two sisters, Darlene Fischer, Debbi Berger; a brother Tim Berger; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary (Richter) Berger; his sister, Diane (Wayne) Olson; three brothers, Ron Picco, Jim Berger, and Garry Berger.
Bill's family would like to thank Dr. Philip Moore and Dr. Valerie Heidenry for their kindness and guidance, Bill was blessed to have a peaceful passing. They would also like to thank the staff at AccentCare for the wonderful care Bill received in his final days.
The family would like to express their appreciation to all the priests for the many blessings and prayers they said on his behalf. Finally they would like to thank the outpouring of love Bill received from his entire family, the phone calls and many visits put such a wonderful smile on Bill's face.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 23, 2025 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a liturgical wake service from 3:00 PM until 3:30 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street Aurora, IL 60506, 630-631-5500.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24, 2025 at 9:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY; to St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 am; Fr. Randy Fronik, Fr. Dan Peters and Fr. James Canova will officiate with interment at Marywood Cemetery, Aurora, Illinois.
