Walter M. Barden, 93, of Sugar Grove, IL passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL. He was born September 3, 1927 in Oak Park, IL.
Walter was a WWII Navy veteran and served on the S.S. Bollinger in the Pacific Theater. After graduating from Loyola University, Walter began a long career with Standard T. Chemical Company eventually becoming the company's Vice President of sales and marketing. When that career ended, Walter started his own company and worked as a manufacturer's representative until his retirement at age 87. Walter was an innovative force in industrial paint coatings and even holds a a U.S. patent for a paint coating process. He made many good friends throughout his long career, his most cherished one being Mr. Nick Contos of Brookfield, Wisconsin.
Although Walter lived a completely independent life on his own terms, he cherished whatever time he was able to spend with his family. Walter enjoyed exceptional health throughout his life as a result of a disciplined diet and exercise regime. His house was a source of pride and comfort for him, and Walter maintained it with perfection.
Walter was a lifelong Catholic and enjoyed being a contributing and participating parishioner of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Sugar Grove. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his four children Ben (Sue) Barden of Los Gatos, CA, Mary (Bill) (Barden) Lenert of Sugar Grove, IL, Georgette (Tim) (Barden) Rippinger of Brookfield, WI, and Walt Barden of WI; 9 grandchildren Katherine (Tim) Oess of Geneva, IL, William (Sarah) Lenert of Kirkwood, MO, Michael W. (Katie) Lenert of Geneva, IL, Thomas (Chrissy) Rippinger of Farmington Hills, MI, Margaret (Andrew) Ensing of Franklin, WI, Tim (Stephanie) Rippinger of McKinney, TX, Molly Rippinger of Milwaukee, WI, David Barden of San Francisco, CA, and Michael Barden of Charleston, SC; 14 great grandchildren; his sister Mary Muno of Park Ridge, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Georgette (Gaumond) Barden; his parents Ruth (Smith) and Walter Barden; his brother Ben Barden; and his two sisters Ruth Scavo and Catherine Flannery.
Due to the covid-19 restrictions, funeral Mass for Walter will be private on Friday, December, 11, 2020 at St. Katharine Drexel Church in Sugar Grove.
