Obituary

Vincent Thomas Nugent, 87, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023 at his home in Aurora, Illinois. He was born April 12, 1935 in Serena, Illinois, the son of Leo and Florence (Grandadam) Nugent. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Edward (Florence) Nugent, Dolores (William) Bermes, Margaret (Lawrence) Lenac, and Marilyn Nugent, and by his nephew, Dennis Lenac.
Vincent and his siblings grew up on various farms in and around Serena Township. As a young man he served in the US Army and Army Reserves from 1957 through 1963 during which time he was stationed in France and Italy. He was employed as a machinist for more than 30 years with Henry Pratt Co. in Aurora from where he retired in 1997.
In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering in his workshop and gardening on the farm and in his backyard in Aurora. He enjoyed taking long road trips to visit friends in Florida. Throughout his life he made long lasting friendships, including with his extended families, the Tribuzios and Washfords. And he is affectionately known as "Uncle Bud" by his nieces and nephews.
Bud loved his family, especially the babies of each generation. He enjoyed hearing new stories when he talked with them. He was memorable, fiercely independent, social, loving, and made friends with everyone, wherever he went. Bud would say he wasn't old, but everyone around him was. He gave the very best hugs and was the best person to nap on the couch with after a holiday feast. Bud always attended family gatherings and birthday parties for his great nieces and nephews.
He is survived by one cousin; Vincent Breuer of Rockford, IL. He is also survived by one niece and seven nephews; Steven Nugent of San Diego CA, David (Sandy) Nugent of Roscoe, IL, Diane (Fred) Dick of San Francisco CA, Terence (Kathleen) Bermes of Montgomery IL, Paul Lenac of Mendota IL, Joseph Bermes of Seattle WA, Thomas Lenac of Ottawa IL, Timothy (Emily) Lenac of Oswego IL, and Kimberly Lenac of Ottawa, IL, along with many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
