Thomas A. Neu, 83, a long-time resident of Aurora, passed away Friday, August 7, 2026, at his home at Covenant Living at the Holmstad. He was born February 14, 1943, in Aurora, Illinois.
Tom was a devoted member of St. Rita of Cascia Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the choir. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
Tom was a proud graduate of Marmion Military Academy and Aurora College. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. He went on to build a career in computer programming, working for All Steel and later Sol Corp. He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others as an instructor, teaching night classes at Waubonsee Community College.
Tom was a member of the Fox Valley Corvette Club and the Moose Club. He enjoyed many things in life, including playing poker and golf, playing the accordion, and sharing breakfast at Mother's with his best friend and brother-in-law, Dave.
Those who knew Tom will remember his upbeat spirit, kind smile, and willingness to offer advice and encouragement to those he loved. He especially enjoyed giving life advice to his daughters and grandchildren, always wanting to share the wisdom he had gained throughout his life.
Above all, Tom treasured his family. Being a husband, father, and especially a grandpa brought him his greatest joy. His love for his family, his warm smile, his sense of humor, and his generous spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his three daughters, Christine (Brad) Black, Kimberly (John) Branstad and Karen (John) Pirc; six grandchildren, Lauren (Keith) Haglund, Kate (Jack Collins) Pirc, Joshua Branstad, Emily Branstad, Nathan Barnstad and Sarah Branstad; two great grandchildren, Madelyn Haglund and Harper Haglund. three sisters, Kathy Thorne, Marge (Bob) Turner, Mary (Don) Martin; his brother-in-law, David Greenbusch; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita A. Neu; his parents, Albert and Ruth (Millen) Neu; his grandson, Matthew Branstad; his sister, Rose Greenbusch; and a brother in infancy, James Albert Neu.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Philip Branshaw and the team at the Holmstad especially Kristen and Beth for the loving care they gave Tom.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from DALEIDEN MORTUARY at 9:30 AM to St. Rita of Cascia Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM; Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
