After a hard fought battle against Leukemia (AML), and the resulting effects of Graft versus Host Disease(GVHD), Steven Curtis Chaffin died peacefully in the early morning hours of January 19, 2016 of chronic GVHD.

Diagnosed with AML in late December 2014, Steve was a stem cell transplant recipient and a clinical trial participant through Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago. Subsequent to the transplant in April 2015, Steve contracted GVHD which progressed from the skin, to the gut and finally to the lungs. Born and raised in Aurora, Illinois, Steve was the son of Theodora (Tenerowicz) and Donal Chaffin. He was a graduate of West Aurora High School Class of 1981. For more than 20 years, Steve worked at Chaffin Flooring in a family owned and operated business with his father and sister Marie. He later transitioned to a career as a CAD designer.
Experimenting in the kitchen and creative woodworking were among his favorite past times. Some favorite childhood and lifelong memories were vacations in Massachusetts with his aunt's, uncles and cousins. He especially enjoyed the ocean and fishing off of Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard.

He is survived by his mother, Theodora Chaffin of Aurora; two sisters Valerie(Christopher) Tyrrell of Dearborn Heights, MI and Marie Chaffin of Maple Park, IL; a brother Stan Chaffin of Sierra Vista, AZ; two nephews Colten Chaffin of Aurora, IL, Robert Berrios of Maple Park, IL; a niece Sierra Berrios of Maple Park, IL; and godparents: Regina Gruszka of Gene, Ludlow, MA and Robert DiVito of Elmhurst, IL.

He was preceded in death by his father Donal Chaffin, and his beloved dog, Buddy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 12:30pm at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY.
