Shirlie Jane (Lowe) Hankes, 100, died peacefully Monday, January 3, 2022 at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva. She was born to Perry and Ida Lowe. Shirlie was united in marriage to Norman Hankes. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Shirlie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and treated everyone like family.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sherry (Bill) Dahl and June Wilkinson; her daughter-in-law Alice Hankes, her 6 loving grandchildren; Brian Dahl (Nancy Wyatt), Greg (Joanna), Melissa (Brent) Horlock, Melinda (Wes) Johnson, Amanda (Kevin) Johnson, and Daniel Wilkinson; 13 great grandchildren; Jami, Cori, David, Andrew, Ryan, Lilianna, Wesley, Alina, Selah, Josie, Lucy, Gunnar, and Genevieve; her beloved sister Val Bohr and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Hankes; her son Gerard "Skip" Hankes; her twin daughters Cassandra and Christina who died in infancy; her father Perry Lowe and mother Ida (Lowe) Gramley; her stepfather Russell Gramley; her father-in-law Ed Hankes and her mother-in-law Susan (Nickels) Hankes and her sister Marilyn Lowe; her sister-n-law Dorothy Schneider; brother-in-law Paul Schneider and brother-in-law Don Bohr.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 at 11:00am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Fr. Max Lasrado will officiate. Interment will be at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. She will lie in state at Blessed Sacrament Church Friday morning from 10:00am until the funeral hour at 11:00am.
