Salvador E. “Sam” Cansino, 88, a long-time resident of Aurora, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, at Prairie Crossing Living and Rehabilitation Center in Shabbona, IL. He was born March 25, 1938, in Aurora, Illinois.
Sam was a devoted member of St. Joseph Church and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He proudly served his country as a retired U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict and was a longtime member of the Aurora VFW.
Sam was an active and beloved member of the Aurora community. He belonged to many clubs, including the Turner Club and the Phoenix Club, as well as numerous bowling and golf clubs. He had a passion for drag racing and loved the excitement of cars and racing. Sam also challenged himself athletically, participating in multiple Chicago Marathons.
But above all, Sam treasured his family and the time he spent with his “favorite” daughter, Maria. She held a very special place in his heart.
To know Sam was to love him. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and cared for. He was “Dad” to everyone he met—a kind, generous, and loving man who left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who called him “Dad.”
He is survived by his wife, Judy (Koley) Cansino; his daughter, Maria (Timothy) Kissel; five grandchildren including Scott Cansino, Lisa Cansino, Melissa Cansino; three great grandchildren including Chloe and Grayson; two sisters, Rose Thomas, Anna (Max) Gonzales; two brothers, John Cansino, Michael Cansino; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eliseo and Maria (Vargas) Cansino; his son, Kenneth Cansino; his sister, Theresa Nila.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, at 12:00 PM at DALEIDEN MORTUARY; Fr. Jerome Leake will officiate with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
