Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, educator, and community leader, Dr. Ronald William Simcox passed away after a brief illness on February 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service, and excellence.
Ron, as he was affectionately known, was a devoted husband to his late wife, Elizabeth "Bette" Simcox, and a loving father to Lilith (Eliot) Rockett, Anne (Finn Norris-Gray) Carloss, and Bill (Jennifer) Simcox. He was a proud and adoring grandfather to Opal Rockett, Quin Carloss, and Che Carloss.
A lifelong educator, Dr. Simcox was a graduate of Aurora University (B.S.), Miami University of Ohio (M.A.), and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Ed.D). He served as the superintendent of Hinsdale School District 181 for 23 years, shaping the lives of countless students and educators. His commitment to the community extended far beyond the classroom, as he played an active role in the Hinsdale Rotary Club, the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce, and more than 25 other organizations, always striving to uplift those around him.
A true renaissance man, Ron's talents and passions knew no bounds. He was an exceptional woodworker, a skilled needlepoint artist, an avid golfer, and a gifted musician, mastering the clarinet and saxophone. His voice was often heard at school and community events, where his warmth and charisma left a lasting impression. His guiding philosophy, "If you give anything, give it 110%," defined his approach to life, work, and service.
In his later years, Ron and Bette found joy in their time together in Pinehurst, North Carolina, where they embraced the beauty of travel and the richness of new experiences. Eventually, their true Midwestern roots called them back to the western suburbs of Chicago where they remained until their passing.
Dr. Ronald William Simcox's impact on his family, students, colleagues, and community will be felt for generations to come. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to excellence will never be forgotten.
A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 PM at Katherine Legge Memorial Lodge 5901 County Line Rd, Hinsdale, IL. All are welcome to attend.
