Robert G. Wampach, 101, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 Crystal Lake, Illinois. Robert was born on February 23, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Frank E. and Gretchen (Germann) Wampach.
Before he was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather Robert served our country with distinction as a member of the Air Force. He received the following decorations for his service: Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Battle Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. During his service he served as a radio repairman on P-51 Mustang airplanes. Later he would become a licensed Ham Radio Operator which he enjoyed for many years. Robert was an Electrical Engineer by profession where he is credited for at least nine patents for The Teletype Corporation. His passion was skeet shooting where he won many awards. As a father he helped and encouraged his daughter, Nancy in her love of working with and showing horses. He was an explorer of the outdoors and loved traveling the country in his motor home with his family. He also built his two homes in Roselle, Illinois and his favorite in Dundee, Illinois.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Nancy (James) Hanson; grandson, Joseph (Desiree) Loebach; sister-in-law, Marcy Wampach; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is his wife Elaine (Simpson) Wampach, son, Richard Wampach; siblings, Betty Cockrell, Paul Wampach, and Frank Wampach; nephew Bob.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Aurora with military honors.
