Paul J. Houlne Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Paul J. Houlne, 82, passed peacefully at his home today to join Christ and those that passed before him that he loved so dearly. A devout catholic, he was surrounded by his loving family as he journeyed to the house of the Lord. He is survived by his loving wife Helen Houlne (Anderson), his brother Jim (Aurora, CO), his daughters Judy (Dave) Halliday, Amy (Mike) Thomas, his sons Tim (Kimber) Houlne, James Day and ten grandchildren. A graduate of Marmion Military Academy and the Illinois Institute of Technology, Paul was an accomplished civil engineer who spent his entire career at two companies, Barber Greene in Aurora, Il for 32 years and Midwest Conveyor in Kansas City for 10 years. He was a Life Member of the Society for Civil Engineers. An avid tennis player in his early years, he picked up golf in Kansas City while a member at Brookridge Country Club. Having suffered a stroke himself, he also volunteered for Strokes of Support in Overland Park, KS for over 10 years. He was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. The “old philosopher” was always quick with an old saying, a proverb, a story, some words of wisdom or a joke that would light up the room. The kindest, most gentle, selfless man endured hardships through life, but was strong to those around him before thinking of himself. He will be missed by many but his memories will live with us forever. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Clara (McVicker) Houlne, his brothers Louis, John (Jack), Gerald, Bobby, his sons Thomas and Daniel (Day), his granddaughter Mitia and his first wife Carol (Kling). Funeral Mass will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at Holy Angels Church at 10:00 AM. Msgr. Martin G. Heinz will officiate with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
