Obituary

Patrick Matthew "Pat" Konen, 72, passed away peacefully at his home on June 3, 2024 after a short, courageous battle with cancer.
Pat was a lifetime resident of Aurora, IL. He was born on May 16, 1952 at St. Charles Hospital in Aurora, IL. Pat graduated in 1971 from Aurora Central Catholic High School. He worked most of his life as a mechanic at the Konen's service station at the corner of New York St. and Root St. where he eventually became part owner along with his father. He didn't know it at the time, but one of the girls who lived next door to the service station would eventually become his wife. Pat and Sharon were childhood friends and would eventually marry on February 17, 1990.
Pat was known for always being upbeat and full of energy. He had a great sense of humor and always had something funny to say, normally in a teasing way. He was a three time cancer survivor with a strong will to live but this fourth uphill battle with cancer was more than this strong man could conquer. He loved cars and doing yard work. He was often teased by family and friends that he was the only person who mowed his yard in the month of February. He also was an avid fisherman. He loved going on fishing trips to Kimball Lake Resort in Minong, WI with family and friends and traveled there for many years for an annual fishing trip. Perhaps what he enjoyed most was his daily walks with his wife by his side and spending time with his family and friends. He was a faithful member of St. Rita of Cascia Church since 1974 and attended Mass regularly.
Pat was a loving husband, father grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his surviving wife of 34 years Sharon (Hayton), his two sons Aaron (Pam) and Corey, his granddaughter Abbygail, his great grandson Legend, his great granddaughter Iyla, his four sisters Kathleen Konen (Mike Stark), Jacqueline (Dan) Frantzen, Mary Ann (Ted) Horn, and Colleen (Dan Skowronski) Konen, his brother Daniel (Dena), and many many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents Mary Kay and Rich; his sister Melody Feltes; and two nephews Sean and Joey Sleezer.
Funeral from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY will be Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11:30am to St. Rita of Cascia Church at 12:00pm. Fr. Juan Ayala will officiate with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
