Patricia A.
Hoss
Apr 26, 1936 — Sep 20, 2026
Aurora, Illinois
Patricia (Pat) Hoss, 90, of Aurora, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on September 20, surrounded by family, after having truly "danced through life”.
Pat was born April 26, 1936, in Aurora, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Bernice "Bea" (Mathey) Halpin. She married Theodore (Ted) Hoss in 1958 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Aurora. The two began dating as sophomores in high school, married seven years later, and began a beautiful life together spanning 64 years of marriage and five children.
From a young age, Pat had a love of dancing and performing. She tapped and performed in plays around Aurora, an energy she carried into sports, theater, and writing throughout her life. Pat graduated salutatorian from Madonna Catholic High School in 1955, where she served as editor of the school newspaper and was involved in sports, drama, and music. After graduation, she took a position working with the monks at Marmion Military Academy, where she spent her entire career. After retiring, she continued her involvement with Marmion, taking great pride in working alongside others on the annual Salute to Youth Fundraiser.
Pat and Ted’s travels together took them to thirty countries and all fifty states. They spent two years in Kenya, East Africa, for Ted’s teaching career, where Pat raised their five children, took part in local charity events as “dance captain” at the Nyeri Kenya Country Club, and won a few golf tournaments.
Pat was a tireless supporter of her children's and grandchildren's sporting, cheerleading, musical, and drama activities. She spent countless hours playing ball, teaching dance, and singing along to musical numbers, always present, often arriving before the grandchildren's own parents. She was active in booster programs at Batavia High School and Marmion Academy helping to build many of legacy programs that remain today, including the Batavia Sports Boosters banner program and spaghetti dinners, Music Buffs, Swing Swingers, the drama program, and Music and Sports Boosters at Marmion Academy.
Pat, with Ted, loved theater, a good book, dance and sports, an appreciation she passed on to her children and grandchildren. In retirement, she and Ted continued to make fond memories, traveling, attending sporting events, and enjoying theater with their two prime season tickets on the aisle at the Paramount Arts Centre.
Pat's joys were her husband, her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her crossword puzzles, and her insatiable love of sports. She lived a life of generosity, giving of her time, energy, and special Christmas memories for her loved ones. Her family meant everything to her and was especially grateful for son John and his friend Jennifer, who cared for her and for the steady support of Ann, Laura, Paul, Mike and their families.
In reflecting on her life, Pat perhaps said it best herself: “As you reach the end of your life on earth, if you have faith in God, you are not afraid.” And of the life she and Ted shared, she wrote, “The happy memories of our life together will always be in my heart and soul. It was a full life, and I was fortunate to have married a man who enjoyed every minute!”
Pat is survived by her daughters, Ann (Bill) Degnan of Birmingham, MI, and Laura Hoss of Eagan, MN; and her sons, Paul (Linda) Hoss of Sugar Grove, IL, Michael (Kim) Hoss of The Woodlands, TX, and John Hoss of Aurora, IL. Twelve grandchildren: Kelsey (Paul) Coyne, Molly (Warren) McGuire, Bailey (Connor) Childress and Caroline Degnan; Margaret (Daniel) Davis, Amanda Engelhart and Fritz Engelhart; Brian (Erin) Hoss, Lauren Hoss, Kevin Hoss and Luke Hoss; and Addison Hoss. Also, ten great-grandchildren: William, Madeline, Emmett, Cameron, Callie, Arthur, Henry, Hugo, Theodore, & Nico.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ted; her parents; her sister, Judy Halpin; and her grandson, Matthew Engelhart.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Annunciation BVM Catholic Church in Aurora, co-celebrants Abbot Joel Rippinger O.S.B. & Rev. John McFadden.
