Patricia J. Glavan

Patricia Joan Glavan passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on the morning of April 23, 2026, surrounded by her four children and three daughters-in-law. Pat was the only daughter of three children born to Alexander and Emily Jedrzejak on June 17, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois. Pat was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Back of the Yards, and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School. She subsequently attended music school for two years at Chicago Musical College studying piano. She went on to work for Dog World Magazine as a secretary before meeting her future husband, Dick (Richard) at a Lake Delavan, WI dance hall. Dick took one look at Pat and told the bartender, “I’m going to marry that woman someday.” They courted for a short six months before marrying on January 29, 1955. After marrying, she worked at Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern Railroad (EJ&E) as a secretary until the first of her four children was born. She became a member of Beta Sigma Phi, a philanthropic and social sorority, instrumental in obtaining funding for the creation of the Hope D. Wall School, a public school for children with disabilities. She actively served in the organization for over 25 years. She was honored with the Order of the Rose, recognizing her dedication to the organization and many hours of philanthropic time given. Pat and Dick lived with his parents in Joliet, Illinois until 1960 at which time they had saved enough money to build their own home in Aurora, Illinois which Dick took an active role in constructing. She lived there until her passing. Pat never liked to sit still. She kept her days busy while raising her children doing the things she loved it most which included golfing, bowling, gardening, church, and the kids’ school. In addition to her involvement with Beta Sigma Phi, she also volunteered with the American Red Cross for many years. Once her children entered high school and college, she worked at Stillman Company in Aurora working in a secretarial position. She also loved to travel with Dick and the children. They enjoyed taking them to 46 of the 50 states creating many fond memories for them all. She and Dick had the fortune of also traveling to many European countries. She was often invited to share her travels with the students at Holy Angels where her children attended. In later years, their traveling included many trips to visit their grandchildren who lived in various states throughout the country. She was very hands-on, always helping with the grandkids and doing whatever projects needed doing around the house. Pat and Dick would also travel each winter to Florida or another warm state to golf and avoid the winter cold. Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard, her parents – Alexander and Emily, and her brother Melvin. Her survivors include: her brother, Jerome, her three sons, Robert (Kim), Ronald (Dawn), and Randy (Annette), and her daughter, Susan; eleven grandchildren – Jill (Nate), Caitlin (Kevin), Andrew (Amy), Zachary (Matthew), Lisa (Aron), Michael, Emily (Daniel), Alex, Bailey (Tanner), Nicole (Landon), Kara; ten great grandchildren – Austin, Owen, Emmeline, Mirabelle, Jude, Lennon, Ashton, Avery, Clement, Frances. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Pat’s hospice caregivers at Lightways and most especially to her caregiver, Margaret Pienczkowska, who has provided many months of nursing support, become a friend to the family, and been a Godsend for Sue, Pat’s primary caregiver. Dean Smith will officiate with entombment at Mt Olivet Cemetery.
