Norma Jean Rahn, 91, passed away peacefully on May 18th, 2024 at Rush Copley Medical Center, surrounded by family. The youngest of nine siblings, Norma was born on December 4,1932 to Frank and Margaret Christner. Norma was married for 33 years to Robert Rahn, who served on the Aurora Police Dept.
Norma attended St. Mary's Catholic grade school and High School in Mt Sterling, IL. She held many jobs over the years, including nursery ward aide at St. Joseph's Hospital in Aurora, mailroom clerk at Farmers Insurance, day care aide at Our Lady of Good Counsel school and waitress/hostess at Scotty's restaurant in Oswego and Grandma's Table in Montgomery. However, the position Norma most excelled at was as a mother and grandmother. With 9 children, 21 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren there was never a dull moment. Mom took every chaotic day in stride, always patient and understanding, showering us all with the most love a mother could give. Each of us holds many special memories of mom. She was funny, with a one liner wit that kept us laughing until the very end. She always baked everyone their favorite birthday dessert, and that was a lot of birthdays! Her pies, cakes and brownies were always a hit at any function she attended. She was an avid bowler, amazingly holding a pretty good average even after losing much of her sight in her later years. Next to her family, mom's next biggest passion was gambling! When her daughter in law (who was one of her favorite gambling partners) entered her hospital room this week, mom perked up and said "are you here to take me gambling?" The thing mom will most be remembered for is her kindness. She was always doing something for someone, a selfless mother, person and friend. She will be remembered for her sweet happy disposition. She touched so many lives over her long, beautiful life. We will miss her with all our hearts.
Norma is survived by her children Michael Rahn (Candace), Rhonda (Sue) Rahn (Glenn Schmitt), Douglas Rahn (Karen), Debra Schmedeke (Carl), Sandra Gribble (John), Brenda Simmons (Mike), Barbara Tews (Steve), Diana Grandmaison (Robert), daughter in law Debra Kelly Rahn, her grandchildren Cary Stein (Lou), Christopher Rahn (Laura), Mary Ford, Kelly Rahn, Jason Rahn (Kari), Aaron Rahn (Lauren), Amber Ruhland (B.J.), Justin Schmedeke (Caitlyn), Jessica Thullen (Drew), Matthew Gribble (Melissa), Michael Gribble (Rachel), Breanne Briley, Holly Nalley (Daniel), Rachael Simmons, Michael Simmons (Danielle), Megan Lyles (Jaylen), James Tews, Dante Corbin (Emily), Brittney Manninen (Erik), and Beatrice Grandmaison (Keaton), 40 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
