Maria Sofia Ramirez, 78, of Aurora, died Monday, April 17, 2023 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. She was born February 2, 1945, in El Zape, Durango, Mexico, the daughter of Juan Aguirre and Maria Isabel Rodriguez.
Maria married Rafael Ramirez on January 19, 1967 in El Zape, Durango, Mexico. Their marriage lasted 50 years until Rafael was called home. He preceded her in death March 6, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her son Francisco. Maria was a faithful woman who loved God and serving her community. She spent several years as a pre-marriage mentor helping young couples build a strong Christ-centered foundation.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Aurora. She was an avid gardener and cook. Maria also enjoyed traveling, playing the slots, but mostly spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children Rafael Ramirez of Aurora, Laura (Ignacio) Nunez of Aurora, Victor (Cindy) Ramirez of Glendale, AZ, and Jesus (Jennifer Deutsch) Ramirez of Mesa, AZ; daughters in-law Alma Ramirez, Maritza Ramirez and her grandchildren who were her adoration; Danielle, Alyssa, Noah, Dahlila, Issai, Elijah, Soraya, Sofia, Jacob and Alivia; half-sisters Ramona Zilahy and Maria Salgado Aguirre of California.
Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 9:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to St. Mary Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Aurora.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 24, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 N. Lake St., Aurora, IL 60506. 630-631-5500.
