Margaret Johnson

Margaret Johnson, 93, of Aurora passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017. She was born October 4, 1924 in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Louise Lampe Jung. Margaret grew up with her two sisters in Chicago, where she attended Kelvyn Park High School. In 1946 she married Raymond “Bud” Johnson. In 1956, they moved to Marywood, Illinois, where they joined Annunciation Church, built their home together, and raised six children. In 1969 Margaret made a Cursillo that changed her life. She became a leader for over 40 years in the Cursillo Movement of the Catholic Church. Cursillo brought her closer to her family and to the Lord. She became active in her church community in many ways, such as planning meetings for the Golden Agers for 30 years, joining the liturgy commission at Annunciation, writing petitions for Sunday liturgies, and becoming a lector. She was co-founder and leader for Annunciation’s “Renew” program. In 1991 at the age of 67, she began to teach fourth grade religious education classes, which she continued for 13 years. After a visit to the Holy Land in 1985, she and her husband were passengers in the hijacked TWA 847 flight. In any way she could, she tried to bring the loving, caring concern of Jesus to family, friends, neighbors, and the church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Her husband, Deacon Ray, preceded her in death in 2006. She is survived by her children: Kathleen (Richard) Flanagan, Ruth (John, deceased) Modaff, Alfred (Joanne), Mary (Kenneth) Brown, Barbara (Glenn) Lamping, and Joseph (Mary); and her grandchildren, Julie and Sharon Flanagan, Craig Modaff, Andrew Brown, Theresa Brooks, Sarah (Sister Mary Saint Joseph of the Incarnate Word, OCD), Amy, Christopher and Meg (Margaret) Johnson, Linda Fine, and Justin, Brandon and Nathan Lamping. She was a beloved great-grandmother to Torger, Freya, Casey, Drew, Kelsey, Oliver, Raymond, Alexis, Ashley and Emily. She was a caring sister to Doris Bobowski and Leona Minter; and a loving aunt to Carol Paine, Ellen Bruehl, and Laura and Dan Bobowski. Visitation will be held Friday, December 1, 2017 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with The Rosary being recited at 7:30 PM, at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 N. Lake St., Aurora, IL 60506. (630) 631-5500.
