Lois E. McDonough, 94, of Aurora, Illinois passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at Avantara Aurora. She was born June 12, 1930 in Aurora, Illinois.
Lois was a lifelong resident of Aurora and graduated from Madonna High School and St. Charles School of Nursing, Aurora. She worked as a nurse at St. Charles Hospital until it closed and then enjoyed a long career at Mercy Center serving primarily as a surgical nurse.
Lois loved a good party, a nice cocktail, dancing, bingo, reading, traveling, Jeopardy, M&M's, and a McRib sandwich. Most of all, she loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren
She is survived by her four children, Maureen Gillette, Michael McDonough, Kevin (Sheri) McDonough, Kim (Stephen Thompson) Zinman; eleven grandchildren, Ryan McDonough, Lisa (Phil Zielinski) Jarvis, Tanya Klein, Andy (Rhee) McDonough, Jeremy (Jennie) Klein, Josh (Michelle) Klein, Matt (Barbie) McDonough, Mickey McDonough, Logan (Ben) Zinman-Gerber, Kevin McDonough, Kyle McDonough; eighteen great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; two nieces, Susan (Scott) Sedik-Barker, Jackie McDonough; two nephews, Larry McDonough, Scott (Kim) McDonough; several first cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. McDonough; her companion of over thirty years, Henry Graff; her parents, James and Susan (Schreiber) Flynn; a sister, Shirley (Bill) Sedik; her brother-in-law, Dick (Grace) McDonough; several nieces and nephews.
The McDonough family would like to extend a special note of thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Bickford Aurora for the loving compassionate care Lois received during her time there.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 11:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 12:00 PM. Fr. Andrew Mulcahey will officiate with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a Liturgical Wake Service at 4:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street, Aurora, IL 60506. 630-631-5500.
