Lewis R. "Ernie" Banks, 79, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021at Amita Health Mercy Medical Center with his wife by his side. He was born December 31, 1941 in Aurora.
Ernie was proud U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War and served on the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal. He was a member of St George Byzantine Catholic Church. He retired from UPS after thirty years of service. He was a longtime member of the Aurora Turners Club and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
He is survived by his wife Debbie (Gurley) Banks; three children, Nathan (Lana) Blusiewicz, Kim Banks, Jeff Banks; six grandchildren, Jacob Blusiewicz, Nina Blusiewicz, Hannah Banks, Derek "DJ" Santiago, Kaitlin Santiago, Haley Banks; three siblings, Gloria (Richard) Brolley, Donald (Karen) Banks, David Banks; Many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis F. and Helen C. (Meszaros) Banks and his beloved dog "Gracie".
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 7:00 PM at the DALEIDEN MORTUARY; Fr. Frederick Peterson, O.S.B. will officiate. Interment will be Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street, Aurora, Illinois 60506. (630) 631-5500.
