Leon F. Jennings

Leon “Limp” Jennings, 91, a lifelong resident of Aurora, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Friday, February 17, 2017. He was born January 19, 1926 in Aurora, Illinois. Leon lived a fulfilling life, with never ending devotion to God, family and friends. Leon was a proud Marine who was present for the flag raising at Iwo Jima. He was also proud of his accomplishments on the softball diamond and the bowling lanes, having been elected to both Illinois Halls of Fame. Leon was an avid golfer and a lifelong Cubs fan who very happily watched them win it all last year. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, where he served for many years as a Eucharist Minister. Leon was also a member of the Phoenix, Tiger and Third Ward Clubs, as well as the American Legion Post #84. He worked for Sealmaster Bearing for over 40 years until his retirement in 1986. Leon leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Suzann; eleven children: Lynn (Jim) Riedel, Tom (Pat), Sue, Diane K., David (Linda), Mark (Pam), Donald Sherman (Tina), Gary Sherman (Janet), Diane M. (Bob) Reis, Mari (Greg) Kluber and Jim Sherman (Lynda); twenty one grandchildren: Justin, Jeremy, Jim, Michael, Matthew, William, Timothy, Jennifer, Amanda, Adam, Eric, Jeff, Joseph, Kurt, Ashley, Nicholas, Christa, Kelly, Jacob, Joshua and Lydia; seventeen great grandchildren: Samantha, Gunner, Henry, Frannie, Fisher, Megan, Melissa, Addison, Kennedy, Olivia, Cole, Braxton, Teagan, Livia, Millicent, Isaac and Caleb; two great great grandchildren: Joshua and Noah; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel (Rausch); his parents, Thomas and Margaret Jennings; his brothers, John and Charlie; his sisters, Margaret Hailstone and Mary Brewbaker; and his great granddaughter, Brittney. The family would also like to thank Tuya, George and Sheila, his caregivers at The Neighbors Next Door. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY at 11:30 AM to St. Joseph Church at 12:00 PM. Fr. Jerome Leake will officiate with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, with a Liturgical Wake Service at 4:30 PM, at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 N. Lake Street, Aurora, IL 60506.
