John (Bob) Robert Scott, Sr. 90, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday June 3, 2025, at Alden Courts of Waterford, Hospice Residence in Aurora, Illinois. John (Bob) passed peacefully surrounded by family. John was also known by family, friends and co-workers as Bob or Robert.
John was born on March 19, 1935, in Aurora, Illinois. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School, and East Aurora High School in Aurora, Illinois. John enlisted in the Marine Corp at age 18, on September 8, 1953, he went to Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California for basic training and then additional training at Camp Delmar before shipping off to Korea by way of Japan. John was assigned to the 1st Marine Division Fleet Marine Force. He served 3 years of active duty until September 7, 1956.
He met and married his bride, Nancy Louise Salerno on June 7, 1958. John worked for Burlington Northern Railroad until 1958 and then worked for Jewel Food Stores as a meat cutter for 38 years. John retired from Jewel in July of 1995. John and his loving wife, Nancy enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid Chicago sports fan, and he loved his Bears, Blackhawks and White Sox. John loved fishing and loved to fish in Bass Tournaments or just for fun. He loved his boat and was a great water skier into his 60's. John loved bird hunting with his son and friends from work. He made friends wherever he went.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nancy (Salerno); one daughter Cathy A. Classen (Mark) and one son, John Scott, Jr. (Kim), 5 grandchildren: David Gavin (Tonia), Angela Gavin (Kendall Sigmund), Jacquelyn Scott (Tory Clark), Lucas Scott and John Scott, III. 8 great grand grandchildren: Cody Villagomez, Lacy Gavin (David Pike), Faith Gavin, Chesney Schimandle, Tallan Clark, Blake Gavin, Vinny Gavin and Sarah Gavin; and brother Jerry D Scott.
He was predeceased by his father, Thomas J. Scott, Sr. and mother, Thelma Geraldine (Howard) Scott, two brothers Larry Erath and Thomas J. Scott Jr. and his grandson Vincent Gavin.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his family and was very proud of every one of them. John wanted everyone to be happy and would always go out of his way to have the best family time together; even the little things, like enjoying candy, an ice cream cone, and popcorn; all were his specialties. Setting up fishing poles on the boat, family card games, telling funny stories and making jokes. "He made you feel special, like the most important person at that moment". So many wonderful memories!
He will always be remembered, loved, and truly missed by all. He was a blessing to us all for which we will be forever grateful. The world was a better place with him in it. We love you forever.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 10AM-11AM at St. Rita's of Cascia Catholic Church (750 Old Indian Trail, Aurora, IL 60506).
