John Luetgert, 81, of Aurora, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022 at his home. He was born January 12, 1941 in Elmhurst, Illinois, the son of Ed Vertenten and Ruthmary (Hotchkiss). At a young age his father, Ed passed away and Russell Luetgert adopted him. In March of 1974 he married Joanne Stempky in Cheboygan, Michigan and together raised two sons.
John was a technician with NCR where he retired 1996 and an active member of St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church in Aurora where he was instrumental in the reconstruction of the church and school. He served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era. His passion was woodworking and mastering jigsaw puzzles.
John was a dedicated and loving husband and father. He participated in the Boy Scouts and refereed soccer. He was generous, compassionate, and his positive attitude will be remembered by all who loved him. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; sons, Joel and Jonathon Luetgert; loving brothers and sisters in law; Marianne, Tom, Kathleen, Fred, and Michelle; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Leona Luetgert.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 9, 2022 at 12:00 PM at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church, 750 Old Indian Trail Road, Aurora. Burial at Elm Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 9, 2022 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church, 750 Old Indian Trail Road, Aurora.
