James Harold Jansen, 84, of Aurora, IL, passed away peacefully on February 3rd, 2026, surrounded in prayer by family. James (Jim) was born on September 12th, 1941, in St. Paul, MN, to Matthias and Matilda (Ludwig) Jansen. He is survived by his wife Margaret; his sons Stephen Jansen (Jennifer Bender), Peter Jansen, John (Jocelyn) Jansen; grandchildren Sabrina, Teresa, Cecilia, Lucy, Jose, Anthony, John Paul, Monica, Charlie, Francesca, and Zelie; and sister Merita Hill. He is preceded in death by his brother Carl Jansen and granddaughter Jacinta.
Jim graduated from St. Agnes High School in St. Paul, MN, in 1959 and from the University of Minnesota in 1963. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. After discharge in 1965, he met the love of his life, Margaret Gerlach. They were married on July 15, 1967.
Jim worked a variety of jobs from selling pots and pans to comforting families as a mortician. He shared countless gifts and talents and enjoyed acting in community theater, singing in the church choir, and building sets for his grandchildren's plays. Even on rainy days you could find him on the sidelines cheering for the grandkids during soccer games. He was an instant friend to everyone he met and enjoyed conversations with lifelong companions and new acquaintances.
Even in his final days, he remained a gentleman and showed real strength in character during his weakest moments. His faith carried him home.
