James J. Gaul, 90, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022 at his home. He was born December 28, 1931 in Aurora, IL.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Aurora except for the four years he spent in the United States Air Force where he was stationed for a year and a half each in Germany and France. Jim came home on a thirty day leave from France to be married to Joan Allen in December 1952 and she joined him in France and Germany where their first child was born.
He was a 1950 graduate of Marmion Military Academy. He was a devoted member of St Rita of Cascia Catholic Church serving for many years as an usher. He volunteered at Holy Angels Food Pantry for many years. Jim was a union electrician and together with Joan founded and operated Mr. Fix-It Appliance in Aurora until 1993 when their son Bob took over. Jim was a private pilot and a ham radio operator W9BKK. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby, and helping others with little projects.
He is survived by his wife of sixty nine years, Joan J. (Allen) Gaul; seven children, Catherine (Paul) Goddard, Cynthia (James) Sperlakis, Robert (Betti) Gaul, Julia Limes, Mary (Peter) Bochnovic, John Gaul, Michael (Keri) Gaul; seventeen grandchildren; thirty three great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Donna Gaul; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret (Mauer) Gaul; two brothers, Richard Gaul, Paul Gaul; his son-in-law, Ron Limes.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 9:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORUARY to St. Rita of Cascia Church at 10:00 AM, Fr. Oscar Cortes will officiate with inurnment at St. Joseph Cemetery.
