Obituary

J. Robert "Bob" Mangers, 98, life-long resident of Aurora and former Aurora Fire Chief passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Bob was born on August 26, 1925, the son of John Henry and Lena (Delles) Mangers. His wife, Jean Mangers preceded him in death.
A devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Bob retired in May of 1990 after 40 years with the Aurora Fire Department. From 1977 to 1990 he served as fire chief. He was a graduate of Marmion and served our country in the United States Navy in World War II aboard the USS Augusta in the European Theater. He was a member of many organizations such as: Golden Kiwanis, St. Joseph Catholic Church, International Association of Fire Chiefs, Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, Kane County Fire Chiefs Association, Phoenix Club, VFW Post #1197 in Batavia, and Roosevelt Aurora Post #84 of the American Legion. Bob was a deserving and proud recipient of the Aurora Noon Lions Club Citizen of the Year Award in 1990 and St. Joseph School Distinguished Graduate Award in 1999. He is cherished and will be missed by his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his seven children, John (Kathy) Mangers, Jan (Greg Fayfar) Mangers, James Mangers, Jeri (Stan) Kahle, Jane (Michael) Kutska, Joel Mangers, and Jeni (Jeff) McCormick; eleven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death is his wife, Jean; daughter, Joy Mangers; brother, Albert Mangers; sisters, Rita Budler and Dorothy Reuter; and parents.
Funeral Mass will begin Friday, September 22, 2023 at 9:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to St. Joseph Catholic Church for Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street, Aurora, Illinois. 630-631-5500.
