Ivan J. Stangl

Ivan Joe Stangl, 89, of Aurora, Illinois died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 with his devoted wife Marlene by his side. Ivan was born in Breda, Iowa on August 17th, 1926 the son of Anna and Joe Stangl. Ivan was a longtime member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. He was best known for being a garage sale enthusiast and enjoyed walking his dog, Ozzie. Ivan was a WWII veteran. He worked for Omar Bakery, owned and operated VIP Realty and retired from Caterpillar. He is preceded in death by his late wife Doreen, son Ron Stangl, daughter Susan (Ralph) Harkison, one sister and two brothers. Ivan is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marlene; his children Karen (Leon) Jendruczek, Kathryn (Robert) Feilmeyer, Greg (Colleen) Stangl, Deborah (John) Sklenar, Rosemary (Fred) Alvis, Steven (Penny) Davis, Patricia (Edward) Tuymer, Linda Davis Lombard, Margaret (James) Norman, Gregory (Sara) Davis; also 24 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, his sisters LaVonne O’Connor, JoAnne (Donald) Nehman, and brother Ralph Stangl Ivan belonged to The Lucky 50, Tiger, 3rd Ward, and Turner Club along with being a member of The Knights of Columbus. Ivan left school to join the Navy and served for four years before returning home to finish his senior year of high school. He served as a CB in the Navy during WWII as well as a medic; he was also involved in the reclamation of the Philippines. He was a very proud participant of the October 26, 2010 Honor Flight. Ivan will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to both Unity Hospice and Taking Care of Our Seniors for their loving care and dedication. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street, Aurora, Illinois. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 11, 2016 at 9:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 10:00 AM, 620 South Fifth Street, Aurora, Illinois 60505.
