Irene T. Gonzalez, 78, of Aurora, passed away peacefully to eternal life on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Hillside Rehab and Care Center in Yorkville, Illinois. She was born March 16, 1945 to Enrique and Ramona (Lucio) Torres. Irene was united in marriage to Mauro R. Gonzalez on November 15, 1961 and they spent the next sixty years together until his passing in 2021.
Irene was employed by Western Electric in Montgomery, Illinois for many years and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. She was a great cook and enjoyed her perennial gardens. She had a special bond with many of her nieces and nephews. Irene loved being with children and was always willing to help out relatives and friends with child care. A devoted Catholic Irene attended mass regularly and taught CCD classes for many years.
She is survived by her three children, Mauro A. Gonzalez, Jr, and Imelda (James) Klespitz both of Aurora, IL, Laura Izaguirre of Oklahoma City, OK; her mother, Ramona (Lucio) Rodriguez; three grandchildren, Tony (Amber) Izaguirre, Roy (Adriana) Izaguirre, II, and Ian J. Klespitz; seven great grandchildren, Roy Izaguirre, III, Lauren Izaguirre, Troy Izaguirre, Madison Izaguirre, Caitryn Izaguirre , Connor Izaguirre , Kinsley Izaguirre; six siblings, Antonia Gomez, Enrique (Josefa) Torres, Rachel Alvarez, Beda (Noe) Hernandez, Mary Jane (Albert) Mata, and Debra (Diana Smart) Torres; three aunts, Gloria (Manuel)Becerra, Maria LaFon, and Victoria Gibbs; Many nieces and nephews; her special friends, Andrea Forte, her daughter, Taylor Watkins and granddaughter, Kinley Reeves.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty nine years, Mauro R. Gonzalez; her father, Enrique Torres; her granddaughter; Lauren Klespitz; her stepfather, Catarino Rodriguez; her two brothers-in-law, Ernesto Alvarez, and Valdo Gomez.
Irene's family would like to thank CNA Heather and the staff at Hillside Rehab and Care Center for the loving care they provided to her.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 at 11:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to Annunciation Church at 12:00 PM; Fr. Patrick Gillmeyer, O.S.B. will officiate with interment at Marywood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street, Aurora, Illinois 60506.
