Herbert Richard Hewitt, Sr., 85, of Batavia, IL passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Dunham Rehab and Healthcare Center in St. Charles with his loving wife at his side. The son of Sam and Irene Hewitt, he was born on September 23, 1935 in Aurora, IL. On January 20, 2009 he married Catherine in Las Vegas.
Herbert served our country in the United States Army from 1958 until 1960. He was a thirty year veteran of the Aurora Fire Department retiring in 1996. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Catherine and was an avid Cubs fan. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandson, Chris play baseball for several years with the traveling league. He was a member of the Illinois Retired Firefighters Association, Aurora Turner's Club, and former member of the Irish Club.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Hewitt; children, Herbert (Tracy) Hewitt, Jr., Connie (Michael) Polerecky, Susan Hewitt, Jennifer Hewitt, Rebecca (Sergio) Ruiz, and Angela Rios; thirteen grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brother, Robert Hewitt.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, William C. Hewitt and Jack Hewitt; and sister, Helen Coon.
A Memorial Service will be held, Monday, June 14, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Aurora Regional Fire Museum, 53 North Broadway, Aurora with Chaplain, Fr. Michael Rasicci officiating.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, June 14, from 9:00AM until 10:00AM at the museum.
