In Loving Memory of Harlan R. Tarr
Harlan passed away suddenly on March 11, 2024, due to a cardiac emergency. He recently celebrated 40 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Dayna G. Tarr (Duncan), and joyfully marked his 75th birthday surrounded by friends and family. Harlan is survived by his four loving children: Suzanne C. Tarr, Zachary R. Tarr (Emily), Brittney V. Tarr, and J. Brandon Tarr (Kelsey); and his cherished grandchildren: Haley M. Buracker, Abigail G. Tarr, Olivia G. Tarr, Nora F. Tarr, Julia R. Tarr, Jackson G. Tarr, J. Miles Tarr, and J. Ellis Tarr. His family will remember him as a gentle and loving dad who was always ready to listen and willing to help out in any way.
Harlan's early years were spent in Mayfield, Kansas, a quaint town 45 minutes outside of Wichita. Later in high school, his family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he attended Nathan Hale High School. Family held a special place in Harlan's heart; his deep connection to his roots was evident as his large extended family gathered for reunions over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert O. Tarr and Mildred Goodrum Tarr, his brother, Jerry K. Tarr, his sister, and his dearest friend, Barbara J. Barnes, as well as his granddaughter, Grace A. Tarr.
Harlan dedicated over 50 years to the restaurant industry, working tirelessly until his last day. His passion for his employees and commitment to exceptional service were evident throughout his career. Beginning with Steak & Ale, Harlan went on to contribute to various successful restaurant ventures, forming lasting friendships along the way. Those who knew Harlan remember him as a good, kind man and an extraordinary friend. His ability to maintain lifelong connections, some dating back to high school, speaks volumes about the impact he had on those around him.
Harlan will be greatly missed, but there is peace in his passing as we remember a life well lived. Harlan lived with faith in Christ, very few regrets, enjoyment in his work, and great love for family and friends. There is grief for those that are left behind, but great joy for Harlan as he is united to God in heaven.

A memorial visitation of Harlan will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 9:30am-10:30am at Grace United Methodist Church (300 E Gartner Rd, Napervillle, IL 60540) with a memorial service immediately to follow at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Harlan's name to Grace United Methodist Church.
