George W. Spieler, 87, of Aurora, IL passed away Friday September 16, 2016 at Elmwood Nursing Home. He was born April 23, 1929 in Elgin, IL, the son of the late Herbert and Florence (Knudsen) Spieler.
George was a lifelong member of Holy Angels Church. He was a member of Serra Club. As a Diocesan Lay Minister, he visited area nursing homes and taught CCD classes together with his wife, Marilyn.
Best known for his artistic talent, he rendered thousands of pen and ink drawings of model homes for Chicagoland builders. He created hundreds of oil paintings and watercolors. Friends and family looked forward to his original Christmas cards depicting snow scenes, families, and suburban life. In 1984 he illustrated "1984 Views of the Valley" published by a local printer. He also illustrated several books.
George is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Salerno) Spieler; his daughter, Christina (Spieler) Boyles; his four grandchildren, Laura (Don) Alfaro, Cynthia Haan, Amy (Jimmy) Null, and Anthony Boyles; his 6 great-grandchildren, Christopher Haan, Brian Haan, Meagan Haan, Mya Null, Courtney Null, and Josiah Null.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Beth Spieler; 2 great-grandchildren, Erik Tucker and Rachel Dameron; brother, Herbert (Ingrid) Spieler, Jr.; and sister, Susan (Leo) Hauge.
Funeral service will be will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARYat 10:00AM to Holy Angels Church at 10:30AM, Fr. James Canova will officiate with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 2:00PM until 8:00PM, with a wake service at 5:30PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street Aurora, IL. 60506. (630) 631-5500.
