Obituary

Dorothy M. Weiss, age 97, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025.

Born on August 9, 1928, to Emil and Pearl (Scheuring) Weiss, Dorothy dedicated her life to her family and to educating young minds in the Fox Valley community. A proud graduate of Madonna High School, she went on to earn her B.A. in Education from Saint Benedict's College in Minnesota.

"Miss Weiss," as she was affectionately known, devoted forty-five years to teaching sixth grade at Holy Angels Grade School in Aurora. With her patient guidance, thoughtful attention, and steadfast belief in every student's potential, Dorothy inspired generations of children to approach learning with confidence, curiosity, and joy. Her devotion and gentle spirit left an enduring mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Following her retirement from Holy Angels, Dorothy remained active and deeply committed to education. She continued to tutor students one-on-one, and volunteered at the Domincan Learning Center, offering encouragement and personal guidance that reflected her lifelong passion for service.

Dorothy was blessed with a wide circle of family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers whose lives were enriched by her warmth, grace, and genuine care for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Robert (Marion) Weiss; her sister Marilyn (Erv) Nowak; and her cousin Florence (Gale) Cather. She is survived by her brother Richard (Sandy) Weiss; cousins Frank (Marlene) Haefelin and David Scheuring; and her nieces and nephews Rob (Amy) Weiss, Kathy Byhring, Anne (Adnon) Adawi, Paul (Bo) Nowak, Bill (Debbie) Weiss, and Patrick (Lora) Weiss, along with eighteen grandnieces, grandnephews, and their children.
