Obituary

Dorothy B. (Feltes) Black, 92, of Aurora, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2022 at her home surrounded by her children. Dorothy was born March 1, 1930, in Aurora, the daughter of Leonard C. and Josephine C. (Nilles) Feltes.
Dorothy graduated from Madonna High School in Aurora, American School of Cosmetology in Chicago, and opened and operated Curl Beauty Shop located in downtown Aurora.
On September 11, 1954, she married Clarence A. "Pepper" Black at Annunciation Church in Aurora and devoted her time to raising their family - her greatest joy! She was an excellent homemaker and cook - "famous" for Dot's BBQ, thumbprint cookies and peanut brittle. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, playing bridge, golfing, and knitting. Dorothy will be remembered for her strong faith in God!
Dorothy was a longtime member of Holy Angels Catholic Church serving faithfully through the years as a homebound Eucharistic minister, with the Mothers Group, and Holy Angels Food Pantry. She was a volunteer for Provena Mercy Auxiliary where she managed the hospital gift shop, opened and managed The Resale Shop and co-chaired the Mercy Ball. She was a member of the St. Anne's Society of Holy Angels Church.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Lillian (Gasper) and Clarence A. Black, husband Pepper in 1996, six brothers Howard (Elvera), LaVerne (Marie), Melvin, Clarence (Marian), Herbert (Laurie), Donald (Mary Ann), and a dear aunt, Agnes Nilles.
She is survived by her five children, Stephen (Susan) Black of St. Charles, Jo Anne (John) Rosenow of Valparaiso, IN, Sue (Steve) Wellskopf of Arlington, TX, Lisa (John) Waters of Aurora, and Carlene (Gary) Peterson of Valparaiso, IN; eight grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Black, Jamie (William) Alexander, Meghan (Adam) Shalapin, Hannah (Tom) Shafer, Natalie (Connor) Anthony, Jen Waters, Dan Waters and Sam Peterson; seven great-granddaughters, Gabriella and Gwendolyn Black, Sophia and Olivia Alexander, Hannah and Hayden Shalapin and Janie Shafer; several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Evelia and Jocelyn who lovingly cared for Dorothy the last several years and Advocate Hospice in her final days.
Funeral from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY will be Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 9:30am to Holy Angels Church at 10:00am. Fr. Dean Smith will officiate with interment at Marywood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 31, 20221 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 N. Lake St., Aurora, 630-631-5500.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Holy Angels Church or Holy Angels Food Pantry.
