David H. Whitmer, 70, of Aurora, passed away peacefully February 13, 2022, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 10, 1951, in Aurora, Illinois the son of Howard and Gertrude (Streit) Whitmer.
David married his high school sweetheart Nancy Smith on January 31, 1969 in Clinton, Iowa and had 53 wonderful years together before his passing.
David was employed for 26 years as a truck driver for UPS prior to his retirement in 2000. He was a member of AMVETS Post 103 and St. George Social Club in Aurora.
David enjoyed deer hunting and was a Jack Of All Trades. Most of all he was a very loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Michael Lee in infancy and a sister in-law Judy Bennett.
Survivors include his wife Nancy; three sons Todd (Lisa) Whitmer of Plano, Steven Whitmer of Orange Park, FL, and Ryan (Nicole) Whitmer of Portland, OR; eight grandchildren Justin, Megan, Brendan, Kaitlin, Steven, Alyssia, Hannah and Evan; 5 great-grandchildren Leonardo, Aiden, Aubree, Noah and Gabriel; his brother Daryl (April) Whitmer of Montgomery, IL; his nephew Terry(Serena) Bennett; his niece Shelly(Johnathan) Cox; and two great-nieces Jessica and Olivia Bennett.
David was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family wishes to express their extreme gratitude for the loving care and support provided by Transitions Hospice during David's final days and also to his wonderful neighbors Thomas and Patricia Sheldon for all of their kindness and generosity.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at 1200PM at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia. The DALEIDEN MORTUARY is in charge of arrangements. 220 N. Lake St. Aurora IL 60506. 630-631-5500.
