Charles Nila, 85, passed away in his favorite recliner at home on Sunday, January 8, 2023 after a seven year battle with cancer. He was born on July 22, 1937 to Joseph and Maria Jessie (Cansino) Nila in Aurora. On December 19, 1980 he married his beloved, Glenna Tadder.
Charles was a life-long resident of Aurora, attending St. Therese Grade School and Marmion Military Academy graduating in 1955. He was very mechanically inclined. As a handy man there wasn't anything Chuck did not try to fix or repair and he was very fussy about his workmanship.
Chuck began his working career right out of high school at Austin-Western Company in engineering department as a draftsman until 1969 then went to the National Accelerator Laboratory now known as Fermilab. As a senior designer he retired from there in 2002 after thirty three years of service in the Particle Physics Mechanical Support Department as design and drafting group leader for nine years prior to retirement.
He was one of the pioneers at Oswego Dragway, racing his white 1956 Chevy during the 1956 and 1957 season.
Chuck had lifelong memberships in the Aurora Historical Society, Lincoln Highway Association, National Corvette Museum, and R. E. Olds Transportation Museum in Lansing, Michigan. He was also the proud sponsor of the Chuck Chicks bowling team for 27 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Glenna; children, Michael (Melissa Parsons) Nila, Charles (Alysen) Nila, Jr., Michelle (Mike) Gilley, and Melissa (Enrique) Jackson; grandchildren, Michael Nila, Amanda (Chris) Richey, Dante (Holly) Nila, Jessie (Tyler) Lengerich, and Jenna Gilley ; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Gloria (Ron) Wiggins and Susana (Dale) Travis; and his special Shih Tzu, Nikki Lynn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jessie Nila; and his brother, Alfred Nila.
Funeral services will begin Friday, January 13, 2023 at 12:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 N. Lake Street, Aurora. 630-631-5500.
Visitation will be Friday, January 13, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
