Cecilia F. Castelaz, 92, of Aurora passed away January 22, 2019. She was born the daughter of Anna and Stanley Jez on October 10, 1926.
Cecilia was born in Chicago and grew up in Roseland where she met and married John 'Jack ' Castelaz. She worked at the Chicago Athletic Club for 35 years, first as a waitress and then as a hostess, a fitting occupation for Cele whose kind caring outgoing way earned the respect and love of coworkers and members alike. She was always on the move. Cele loved to travel, visiting her ancestral home of Poland, Malaysia, Taiwan and various locations throughout Europe. She loved yearly vacations to Puerto Rico with Jack. No matter where she lived, Cele made friends for life. She was never too busy to talk, listen, or help. Cele's compassion came from her faith; she never missed Mass, she always made time for prayer, and it guided her always. Cele's family was her heart. Nothing filled her heart with more joy than celebrating her own children. Her 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews also brought her great joy. She loved attending their activities and over time she became well known for her exuberant applause and cheering.
Cecilia is survived by her children Philomine (George) Cook, Christine (Peter) Demas, Daniel (SuHua) Castelaz, Michael Castelaz, and Mark Castelaz; sister Bernice McKay; fifteen beloved grandchildren; ten cherished great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her loving husband John J. Castelaz;
grandson Joshua Cook; brothers Walter Jez and Adam Jez; sister Mary Ann Wator; and both of her parents.
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Annunciation Church. Fr. Patrick Gillmeyer, OSB will officiate with interment at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton. Cecilia will lie in state at Annunciation Church Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the funeral hour at 10:00 AM. Arrangements are being handled by THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 N.
