Bruce Owen Buhrmaster, 91, of Plano, Illinois, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Asbury Gardens surrounded by his loving family.
Bruce was born December 20, 1933, in Hinsdale, Illinois, and grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois. He was the cherished son of Ray and Helen (Hyndmen) Buhrmaster, and brother Ray, his best friend. He was the beloved husband of the late Virginia June Buhrmaster (Lindsay) and a devoted father to Lisa (William) Krachtus and Bruce (Rose) Buhrmaster
Bruce was united in marriage on June 9, 1956, to Virginia (Lindsay) Buhrmaster and spent the next sixty-four years happily together as best friends until Virgina's passing in 2020.
Bruce was employed at All-Steel, Inc. for 30 years and retired as VP of Engineering. He was always proud of saying that he was retired longer than he worked.
He graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL, earning his bachelor's degree in engineering. He served his country in the United States Army building rockets in Alabama.
Bruce was always busy doing something. His talents ranged from building homes, remodeling houses, gardening to all kinds of handy work with electric, plumbing and woodworking. He restored many old antique cars and could fix modern day vehicles as well. His pride and joy was the 1939 Cadillac LaSalle he restored and took to many car shows. He was the kind of person that would help anyone out if they needed help.
Bruce loved visiting people and enjoyed his late afternoon cocktail while chatting up stories. He loved his dear neighbors in Plano on all sides and Florida friends.
Bruce loved going to Florida with his wife, Virginia. Bruce and Virginia loved there Florida house in Hernando Beach on a beautiful canal system where they boated on their pontoon boat while watching many sunsets.
Bruce is survived by his children: Lisa B. (William) Krachtus of Aurora, IL and Bruce W. (Rose) Buhrmaster of Burlington, KY. His five grandchildren, Dominick (Susi) Krachtus, Lindsay Krachtus, Zoe Krachtus, Andrea Buhrmaster and Cassie Leonard and great grandson Riley. He was dear uncle to many family members on Buhrmaster & Lindsay family sides.
