Bertha Krachtus

Bertha Krachtus, 86, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly Monday, September 28, 2026. Bertha was born March 21,1940 in Jakobshof, Hungary, the cherished daughter of Eduard and Maria (Knautz) Lang.

Bertha was beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many, and was the heart of her family. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and countless people who were blessed to know her. She will be remembered for her incredibly sweet nature, generous heart, and love she gave so freely to everyone.

Bertha came to the United States at a young age and went on to build a beautiful life filled with love, family, and friends. She went to grade school at St Nicholas and graduated from Madonna High School 1959 (ACC). Bertha was united in marriage on September 10, 1960, at St. Nicholas Church in Aurora to John Krachtus and spent the next sixty-four years happily together as best friends until John’s passing in 2024.

Bertha was a member of Annunciation BVM Catholic Church. She greatly loved and cherished the parish and was deeply committed to her faith. She was involved in many activities within the church: choir, rosary prayer and long time ago a room mom, and librarian.

Bertha was a great gardener with husband John until time slowed them both down. She loved to cook making many treats: chocolate chip and praline cookies, plum dumplings, buckkeefil, ballachigua, kraut noodle, goulash and many more great dishes.

Bertha loved sitting on back porch with husband John watching sunsets. She cherished nature and the birds, especially watching the cardinal’s and hummingbirds.

Bertha is survived by her two loving sons, John (Cindi) Krachtus, and William (Lisa) Krachtus both of Aurora; her brother, Edward (Barbra) Lang; her brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Diane Krachtus. Eight grandchildren, Courtney Krachtus, Samantha Krachtus, Dominick (Susie) Krachtus, Lindsay Krachtus, Zoe Krachtus, Jim Krachtus, Dan (Jodi) Krachtus, and Joey Krachtus; four beautiful, great grandchildren; Kane, Sawyer, Reid and Shylo. Several loving nieces; Michelle, Barbie, Debbie, Jennifer and Kristy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Eduard and Maria Lang, husband John Krachtus, her middle son, Frank Krachtus; and a sister in infancy.

Funeral service will be held Friday, October 2, 2026, at 9:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to Annunciation Church at 10:00 AM; Fr. John McFadden will officiate with interment at Marywood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 North Lake Street Aurora, IL 60506, 630-631-5500.
