Caliendo, Augustine (Gus) September 28, 1931-October 16, 2024
Gus Caliendo of Aurora, IL passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024 after recently celebrating his 93th birthday. He was born on September 28, 1931 in Aurora IL, the son of Gennaro and Mary Caliendo. Gus attended Holy Angels School in Aurora and Marmion Military Academy (Class of 1949).

Music was an important part of Gus' early life. As a young adult, he became a very accomplished accordion player. He often played on a local radio station in Aurora (WMRO). His sister, Sara, would often sing while he played during those broadcasts.

Gus married Carol Taske on May 16, 1953. They were married for 71 years. Upon retirement they loved to travel and visited various countries in Europe as well as Canada, Hawaii and the Caribbean.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents Gennaro and Mary Grace Caliendo and brothers Martin, Charles, Anthony, Michael, Sebastian and sisters Jennie and Sara. Gus is survived by his wife Carol; his son Steve; daughter-in-law Cindy; his daughter Karen; his grandsons Peter and Matthew; granddaughters-in-law Melinda and Kate; and great granddaughter Gina Lee Caliendo.

Gus began his work life as a wood worker for the Burlington Railroad upon graduation from high school. Over the years his work career included time in manufacturing, custodial supervision and building maintenance.

Gus made it his goal to attend as many of his children's activities as possible. This practice continued with his grandsons. Whether it was sports, music, school events or family outings, he always found time for his family and any activities in which they participated.
