Arthur Daniel Crawford

Arthur Daniel Crawford, 85, of Yorkville, IL, passed away at Tillers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born November 1, 1929 in Chicago, IL. Dan graduated college with a degree in Mathematics. He began his career with Western Electric in Chicago and stayed with the company through many name changes until his retirement in 1980. He moved his family to Yorkville Illinois in 1966 and remained in the house he built until his death. Dan always had a love for the railroad and worked for The Nickleplate in Chicago for a short time. His favorite hobby was Lionel model trains and he spent countless hours at his workbench fixing, painting and rebuilding many different parts of his collection. Every year for Christmas there was a large layout in the front room which many nieces, nephews and neighborhood children came to see. He loved to attend the train shows at the Dupage County Fairgrounds and in the past year he attended those shows with his brother Ray. Dan loved to go out to eat and his favorite spots included Sunfield Restaurant in Yorkville and Select Restaurant in Montgomery. Dan made many friends at these spots and those that knew him have fond memories of his jokes and antics. Dan will be remembered for his ability to laugh at himself and always tell a good joke. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his son Paul (Camelia) Crawford of Yorkville, IL; his daughter Catherine (Scott) Raley of Centennial,CO; his granddaughter Johanna Crawford of Yorkville, IL; two sisters Joan (John) Prim and Elizabeth Mehter; his brother Raymond (Arlene) Crawford; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean Crawford; his son John Crawford; and his parents Eva (Gadbois) and Arthur W. Crawford. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 12:00pm at St. George Church. Fr. Frederick Peterson, OSB will officiate with interment at Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation will be Saturday morning, October 10, 2015 at St. George Church where he will lie in state from 10:00am until the funeral hour at 12:00pm.
