Anne Marie Langan

Anne Marie Langan was born in Streator, Illinois to Leonora and Philip Langan. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Streator High School, and received her B.S. in Education from Illinois State Normal University in 1951. She taught elementary school for 39 years in the East Aurora School District and was the recipient of the Excellence in Education Award in 1990. She began her career in 1951 teaching second grade at Oak Park Elementary School and remained there teaching both second and third grade her entire career. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and the P.T.A. and served as a supervisory teacher for many student teachers. She held workshops for new second grade teachers and demonstrated reading lessons for new and other teachers with a goal of literacy for all. A remarkable friend and mentor to her fellow workers, she was instrumental in developing the teaching careers of many. Anne also worked on campaigns for the United Way and Aurora University and was a long time member of the East Aurora Teachers Bowling League. In 1991 she began volunteering at Mercy Hospital, first in patient registration and later in the medical library. In 2008, she received her 5,000 hours pin and continued to work for the hospital until very recently.Anne was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel parish in Aurora, Illinois for over 50 years. Anne was a loving Aunt to Patrick (Mary), Mary Kay (Bob), Michael (Diana) and Timothy (Kitty) Langan; Great Aunt to Katie (Cruz), Patrick (Patricia), Jillian, Jacob, Roberta, Sean and Molly Langan; and Great, Great Aunt to Max, Xavier, Nathan, Breena, Sofia, Allison and Emma. She was preceded in death by her parents; her only sibling and loving brother, Patrick Henry Langan; and her nephew, Patrick Robert Langan. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Fr. Ricardo Hernandez will officiate with interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Streator, Illinois. In-state visitation will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 620 S. Fifth St., Aurora.
