Abel Moreno Perez, age 89, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 5, 2021, at home surrounded by his family in Aurora, Il., after a courageous battle with Parkinson Disease and liver cancer, complicated by osteomyelitis and septicemia. He was born on August 26, 1932 to Ruperto and Juanita Moreno Perez in San Miguel Epejan, Michoacán, Mexico.
At 17 years old, he immigrated to California, settling in Aurora, Il, meeting his wife Josephine Silva of 63 years. Abel had a great passion for soccer, as a player, coaching over twenty years with the Aurora Kickers SC and other soccer organizations. He worked at Fox Valley Forge Co. for 42 years and was involved with the Guadalupana Society and supported the San Miguel church in San Miguel Epejan.
He is survived by his wife Josephine, his children Lupe (Jon) Axelson, Abel J. (Julie) Perez, Gerard (Maria) Perez, Edmund (Socorro) Perez; grandchildren, Jordan Axelson, Taylor Axelson - Kitchen (Nate), Stephanie (Jonathan) Butler, Jeremy Perez, Paulina Perez, and Joseph Perez; great grandchildren, Evelynn Butler, Owen Butler and Ramsey Kitchen; sisters, Esther (late Faustino) Mora, Josefina Perez, Maria (late Federico) Alvarez, Rigoberta (Ranulfo) Rodriguez, and Consuelo (Jesus) Sanchez; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by a daughter Veronica at infancy; his parents; a sister, Estela (late Ramon) Cervantes; in laws, Miguel and Luisa Silva, Ertemisa (late Manuel) Diaz, Domingo Silva and Edward (Rafaela) Perez.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Amita nurses Veronica Ramos, Araceli and Heather as well as Season Hospice nurses Mandi and John.
Visitation will be at THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY, 220 N Lake St., Aurora, on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a rosary at 6:00 pm.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, 722 High St., Aurora at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 9, 2021 followed by a burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 pandemic protocols, face masks are required for those in attendance at the funeral home and at church.
