Lois M. Frerich

December 14, 1930 - April 7, 2022

Lois M. Frerich, 91, of Batavia (formerly of Aurora) passed away on April 7, 2022. She was born Dec. 14, 1930 in Litchfield, Minnesota to Arthur and Margaret Kielty. On June 14, 1958 she was united in marriage to David D. Frerich. They were married for 61 years. Together they raised four children and her example instilled in them a love of faith and family. Lois graduated from St. Cloud State University, MN with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education and taught elementary grades for 9 years in MN. (three of those years were in one-room country schools with students in grades 1-8.) The next 19 years were spent raising her children. She returned to the field of education as an academic aide at Waldo Junior High (8 years) and as a library aide at Aurora East HS (8 years). In 1994 she retired to enjoy her family and grandchildren. She and Dave also enjoyed many trips to Florida getting away from Illinois winters. She was a longtime member of Annunciation Church, a member of Altar Rosary Sodality, Retired Teachers Asso., Annunciation VIP, and a member of a bridge group of close friends for over 40 years. Survivors include two sons: Joseph of Batavia, John (Cathie) of Batavia, two daughters Catherine Brolley of Elburn, Kristina (Jay) Grams of Elburn, eight grandchildren Megan (Alfonso) Gamboa, Nicole Hanlon, Alyssa and Kerrie Brolley, Sarah (Casey) Marks, Adam, Emily, and Abby Grams, two great grandchildren Isaiah and Gabriel Gamboa, one sister Helaine Theisen of Hot Springs, SD, one sister-in-law Mary Kielty of Winnebago, IL and many nieces, nephews and a community full of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Wayne, and her husband David. Lois had a head for numbers from keeping the books for her family’s creamery. She could tell you the cost of a family vacation or one of her children’s birth or class rings with a quick look at a ledger. She continued keeping her mind sharp by doing the newspaper’s daily crossword puzzle. Wherever Lois and Dave lived, Lois made it home. Her children have fond memories of their mom attending their events and supporting them. She was a room mom that brought delicious treats, a Brownie leader, and chauffeur. They will also remember their mother sitting at the piano singing or singing in the kitchen while she canned tomatoes or cooked dinner. Lois leaves behind a legacy of self-sacrifice and devotion to her family as well as her love of books and many recipes for her delicious baked goods. Her Special K bars and brownies are known world-wide thanks to her son Joe’s restaurant in Cambodia. Lois loved sweets! Her wonderful baked goods and hospitable atmosphere made her home a welcome place for neighborhood children and school gatherings.
