Wilma Q. Sachen

Wilma Quartly Smyth Sachen August 10, 1929 – February 1, 2012 Wilma Quartly Smyth Sachen was born at home in Adams County, Iowa to William Quartly Smyth and Pearl Bixler Smyth. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Wilma attended Aurora College where she met her devoted husband Leroy Sachen. She worked at the Telephone Company while caring for her son and daughter. Later, Wilma graduated from Northern Illinois University and taught grade school for 10 years at Smith and McCleery. Wilma then worked as a real estate broker and property manager at Sachen Realty Company. Wilma enjoyed working and being busy with projects and jobs, and keeping her mind active with games, crafts and puzzles. Wilma traveled to various countries and throughout the United States. She adored her two grandsons and her granddaughter and great-granddaughter. Over the years, Wilma belonged to and participated in various clubs and organizations, including Aurora Women’s Club, AAUW, and the Aurora Republican Women. Most importantly, Wilma was an extraordinary woman who loved spending time with family and friends, working, helping others, and being with her best friend and husband of 62 years. She will be missed by the many people she has touched over the years. Her kindness, elegance, and grace will be remembered forever. She is survived by her husband, Leroy J. Sachen of Aurora, IL; one son, Joseph L. (Mary Pierceall) Sachen of Aurora, IL; one daughter, Jacquelyn (Charles T.) Turner of Highlands Ranch, CO; three grandchildren, Brandy (Chris) Wegman of Aurora, IL. Kyle Turner of Westminster, CO, and Kevin Turner of Aurora, CO; one great-granddaughter, Brooke Wegman; four sisters, Helen King of Missouri, Pearl Dixon of Colorado, Isabel Sullivan of Aurora, IL, and Gwen Hughes of New York; one brother-in-law, Earle Beecher of Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Olive Beecher. Wilma’s family wishes to thank Hospice/Vitas for the wonderfull care they received, especially from Susan and the 703 group. There will be no visitation, and a memorial service will be for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Wilma’s memory to Vitas Community Connection.
