Rita C Kearns

Rita C. (Millen) Kearns, 86, passed away peacefully, Friday, August 19th 2016, in Colorado Springs with her immediate family at her side. Rita was born in Aurora, to Nicholas and Margaret (Jungels) Millen and had one sister, Ruth (Neu). Rita attended Catholic elementary and high school in Aurora and graduated from Jolliet College. She continued her Masters Study in Drama at Catholic University in Washington DC. This is where she met her husband of 40 years, until his death in 2001, Donald R. Kearns. Rita and Don had one daughter, Marie, in 1961. Rita was an elementary school teacher at St Rita's Catholic Church in Alexandria VA for over 30 years. During that time, she participated in Church and school committees-she was always the president of something! She loved dancing and theater, entertaining and travel; there was always an adventure to be had! Rita was diagnosed with macular degeneration right at the time that Don died. Her heart was broken but she rallied, joined new groups with the church and the blind, made lots of new friends and traveled to Europe 2 more times as well as other destinations. In 2010 Rita moved to Colorado Springs to be with her daughter, Marie Kearns Rush, her grandchildren, Seth Pickett Rush and Rachael Louise Rush and her Son in Law, Jeff Yauger. She spent her final years in Colorado, living in their loving embrace. Now, she has come home. Rita is survived by her daughter, Marie Rush and her husband Jeff Yauger, of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Seth and Rachel, of Colorado Springs; nieces Kathy Thorne, Rosemarie Greenbusch, Marge Turner, and Mary Martin, all of Aurora and Louise Levesque, of Florida; nephews, Tom Neu, of Aurora and Don Levesque, of Florida; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren of her beloved sister, Ruth. Beautiful, funny Mom-It is with a bittersweet happiness in my heart that you are home with loved ones you missed so much and God, who you loved so much for I shall miss you forever. You taught us to laugh, love, live and forgive. WE LOVE YOU MOM!!! Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Rita of Cascia. Fr. Manuel Gomez will officiate with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery. In-State visitation will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 from 9:00AM-10:00AM at St. Rita of Cascia Church.
