Mary Ann Hamman

Mary Ann (Kartheiser) Hamman, 96, of Aurora, passed away peacefully at her home on April 24, 2014. She was born on July 1, 1917 in Aurora. She was the youngest child of John and Anna (Augsburg) Kartheiser. Mary Ann attended St. Therese School through eighth grade and attended Madonna High School in Aurora. She married Joseph Hamman on August 20, 1938. Mary Ann worked as a seamstress at Kroehler Manufacturing Co. in Naperville where she met her husband, Joe. She was a lifelong member of St. Therese Church in Aurora where she was a member of the Blessed Virgin Sodality group. She was also a member of the DuPage County Farm Bureau. A widow from the age of 41, Mary Ann was a strong, hard-working woman who was dedicated to her family, friends and faith. In order to support her family, she raised and sold livestock and eggs and she also grew and sold pumpkins and sweet corn. The kitchen was the hub of Mary Ann's home where she was always cooking her favorite recipes for her family and friends. Mary Ann lived life to the fullest and her many hobbies included traveling, playing bingo and cards, gardening, word searches, crocheting and shuffle board. She loved parades, rodeos and county/state fairs. Mary Ann also enjoyed spending her winters in the Port Carlos Cove community in Fort Myers Beach, FL. She is survived by three of her children, Don (Carol) Hamman of Plano, Joyce (Jim) Frankino of Oswego, Bob (Jeanne) Hamman of Aurora and son-in-law Ron Muehlfelt of Wheaton. She is survived by nine grandchildren, Joe (Marcy) Hamman of Plano, David Hamman of Newark, Jim (Laura) Hamman of Oswego, Debbie (Alan) Shumaker of Belvidere, Jeff (Teri) Schuman of Warrenville, Kathy (late Patrick) Spillane of DeKalb, Kristen (Dave) Hurter of Downers Grove, Bob (Laurie) Hamman of Glencoe and Ryan Hamman of Aurora. She is also survived by 18 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Mary Ann had wonderful caregivers, especially Grace Matlok, that all allowed her to have continued quality time at home. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Hamman, her daughter Donna Muehlfelt, her parents John and Anna Kartheiser, her brothers Julius, Ralph and Theodore Kartheiser, her sisters Frances and Hildegard Kartheiser, her grandchildren John (Gloria) Schuman, Mary Margaret Hamman and Donald Patrick Hamman, all of her sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, and many dear friends including Leora Lorang, Julia Onete, Betty Jakious, and Bud and Lou Hyett. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a wake service at 2:00 PM at The Daleiden Mortuary, 220 N. Lake Street, Aurora. The funeral will be on Friday, May 2, 2014 from The Daleiden Mortuary at 9:30 AM to St. Therese Church, 271 N. Farnsworth Avenue, Aurora for a 10:00 AM funeral mass. Burial will follow at Marywood Cemetery, 1820 Church Road, Aurora.
