Mary Gilla

Mary Gilla, 95, of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Aurora, IL passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in Scottsdale, AZ. She was born in Aurora, Illinois on August 8, 1915. She has a daughter, Marilyn who lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband, John Bechtold and her son, John Gilla who lives in Aurora with his wife, Carol. She was preceded in death by her husband, John and her parents Theresa and George Sabo, her sister, Theresa and her brother John. Mary has three grandsons, Timothy, Andrew and Steven and five great-grandchildren, Sam, Eve, Addie, Reese and Emerson who all live in Aurora. She also has numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. She always said that her happiest years were babysitting for her three grandsons. Mary worked for Woolworth’s in Aurora for 25 years and thoroughly enjoyed working in sales and loved her customers. She was truly a “people person” and loved her family and friends more than you could ever imagine. She enjoyed baking, cooking and working at her church for all the dinners and bake sales. Her hobbies were crocheting and working on crossword puzzles. Her husband, John, was extremely dedicated to his church as well, and he was the President of the church committee for many years. She has been living in Scottsdale, Arizona with her daughter, Marilyn and her son-in-law, John Bechtold for the last ten years, and she thoroughly enjoyed her life in Arizona. She loved going to the Senior Center in Scottsdale every Tuesday to play Bingo, and likewise, loved going to the Prisco’s Friendly Center in Aurora to play Bingo on Thursdays during her summer visits with family. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was dearly loved by everyone who knew her. She loved life, and we will never forget her smile when you walked into the room. Life without her will be very difficult! Funeral from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY will be Monday, July 25, 2011 at 12:30pm to St. George Church at 1:00pm. A concelebrated funeral service will be offered by Fr. Frederick Peterson, OSB and Fr. Charles Reichenbacher, OSB. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park.
