Mary Lou Fiefer

Fiefer, Mary Lou Age 85, of Aurora Township passed away with peaceful dignity at her home on October 4, 2011, in the company of her family. She was born Mary Lou Sorg at Saint Charles hospital in Aurora on September 30, 1926. Mary Lou was born the oldest of five children. She attended Our Lady of Good Counsel grade school and graduated from Madonna High school in Aurora in 1944. Mary Lou worked as a secretary in Aurora for many years. She received several awards of recognition for her proficiency in the lost art of Palmer shorthand. She worked during part of the 1960's as a substitute teacher for Annunciation school in Marywood. Mary Lou also spent several years as a reluctant but willing girl scout leader for her daughters troop at Saint Joseph's school after much persuasion by the scouts. She was an avid reader and an excellent speller, any word, anytime. She was a walking dictionary. Very witty and with a great sense of humor. Mary Lou married the love of her life, Peter J. Fiefer, at Our Lady of Good Counsel church on December 12, 1950. Pete came from a strong military family, with all six sons, one daughter, Sophia, and a brother-in-law, Roger Schmidt, all enlisting and serving during World War Two at the same time. Mary Lou was the last one remaining of a large generation of Fiefers' to have built their homes and raised their families on the land in Aurora Township that has been in her husbands family since September of 1927. She has missed Pete so very much since his passing 30 years ago. At last they are together again. After Pete's passing she enjoyed spending time again with her dear friend Delores (Dee Dee) McKowen. The two girls had been best friends since the first grade until Delores' passing several years ago. One of Mary Lou's dreams to visit Europe was fulfilled when she accompanied her dear friend Veronica (Vera) Popp on three separate occasions to visit Vera's home country of Holland. The girls toured all over Europe. She was so saddened when Vera passed away last Christmas day. Mary Lou was proceeded in death by her beloved parents, Alvin and Margaret (nee Schomer) Sorg; her husband, Peter Fiefer; her granddaughter, Sarah Kether; her husbands parents, John and Anastasia Fiefer; her only sister, Patricia (James) Johnson; her brothers, Dale Charles Sorg and James (Margie) Sorg; her nephews, Steven Johnson and Christopher Robin Johnson; her great niece, Emily Sorg; her husbands five brothers, Michael, William, Jack, Frank and John Fiefer; two of his sisters, Sophia Wright and Rose Pitchman. Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Susan Roberts; her son-in law, Jeffrey Roberts; Jef's mother, Patricia (Bill) Roberts Quast; her step granddaughter, Jessica Wade; her great grandson, Andrew Roberts Wade; her brother, Edward (Barbara) Sorg; her sisters-in-law, Margie (Jim) Sorg, Barbara (Edward) Sorg, Anna (Roger) Schmidt, Marie "Aunt Corky" (Robert) Williams, Tomiko (William) Fiefer, Josephine (Jack) Fiefer and Pauline (Frank) Fiefer. Her niece, Sandy (Conrad) Sorg Kral; her nephews, Dale Alvin Johnson, David (Nancy) Johnson, Bobby Johnson and Jimi (Donna) Johnson and all of her many nieces and nephews. Mary Lou loved all of her family and friends, they were always in her prayers. She also enjoyed keeping in touch with her girlfriends from Madonna High school; Rose Lasso and Audrey Abhalter. Her daughters friends have been family to Mary Lou for over four decades; Jeannie (Jake) Jakosh, Jeannie Hess Federman, Norma Popp Dudley, Verna Kresse, Mary Sullivan, Kate Wendt Sikelianos and Claudia Dooley Sciaronni. Mary Lou's family would like to thank her friend John Kunkle of Saint Josephs' Parish for visiting her with Holy Communion on Sundays since she's been home bound. She looked forward to seeing John all week, his fun stories and friendship meant a lot to her. The family would also like to thank her friend Father Jerome Leake, Pastor of Saint Joseph's Parish in Aurora. Father Jerry administered the Last Rites of the Catholic Church to Mary Lou. His kind compassion in her families time of need was greatly appreciated. Mary Lou had been a devout member of Saint Josephs' Parish for 60 years. Mary Lou was a wonderful daughter, wife, sister, niece, cousin, aunt and grandmother, but most of all she was the perfect mother.
