June C. Gallagher

June Catherine Gallagher, 96, of Batavia, will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family and friends. She passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at McAuley Manor in Aurora. Mrs. Gallagher was born on June 17, 1918 in Oak Park, Il. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Howard Aloysius Gallagher in 1986, her infant son, Timothy Gallagher in 1949, her sister Jean (Buchanan) Jacklin, and her parents Sophia and Charles Buchanan. She is survived by five daughters and one son. Julie (Bob) Marchesi, of Mission Hills, Kansas, Mary (James) Nardone of Aurora, Illinois, Cathy Gallagher of Monmouth, Illinois, Helen (Larry) Simpson of Holland, Michigan and JoAnn (John) Hoscheidt of Aledo, Illinois. Her son, Peter (Mary) Gallagher of Northfield, Illinois. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Timothy Marchesi (John Lawrence) of Chicago, Illinois, Chris (Billy) Rudicille of Flower Mound, Texas, James (Debbie) Nardone, of Aurora, Illinois, Beth, (Dave) Baker of North Aurora, Illinois, David (Jen) Nardone of Gilberts, Illinois, Scott (Jeanine) Gallagher of Northfield, Illinois, Michael Gallagher of Evanston, Illinois, Kate (Andy) Glaze of Rockwall, Texas, John (Alexandria) Simpson of Indianapolis, Indiana, Maggie (David) Hauser of Birmingham, Michigan, Kelly (Gabe) Barta of Peoria, Illinois, Julie (Josh) Craig of Griggsville, Illinois and Lisa Hoscheidt of Brentwood, Missouri. She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren. June was employed as a reporter for the Beacon News and retired in 1983. She was a member of Holy Cross Church in Batavia and a former parishioner of St. Rita of Cascia Church in Aurora. Mrs. Gallagher was always an advocate for daughter, Cathy. She was instrumental in bringing education for disabled children into the Aurora area in the early 1960’s. She taught the first class for children of various disabilities which later developed into larger classes and eventually to Hope Wall School in Aurora. She was an avid reader and writer. The family wishes to thank all her friends and staff at Heritage Woods in Batavia for giving her love and respect for the years she was living there. We would also like to thank the staff at McCauley Manor and the staff at Delnor Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth, Illinois (where Cathy Gallagher resides and works) or St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota. Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 am at Holy Angels Church in Aurora, Illinois. Father Michael Lavan will officiate with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
