Julia Diaz Hernandez, 88, of Aurora, IL, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 18, 2025. She was born in 1936 and raised in the small town of Emiliano Martinez, El Oro, Durango, Mexico. Julia was one of 13 children born to Jesus Jose Diaz and Tomasa Pule, a large and loving family where faith, hard work, and unity were deeply rooted. All but four of her siblings preceded her in death, but her connection to them remained strong throughout her life. On May 23, 1956, Julia married the love of her life, Gonzalo Hernandez Morales in Durango Mexico. Together, they built a life and raised six children in Emiliano Martinez. Their home was filled with love, tradition, and values that would be passed on for generations. In July 1989, seeking new opportunities and a better future for their family, they made the brave decision to move to Chicago, IL. Not long after, they settled in Aurora, IL. Julia had a natural gift for nurturing. Known affectionately as a “second mom” to many neighborhood children, she welcomed everyone with open arms. She was instrumental in helping raise her grandchildren, offering comfort, guidance, and love with every meal, story, and gesture. Julia’s kitchen was always open—she had a deep love for cooking and took pride in feeding anyone who walked through her door, no matter the time of day. Her warmth and hospitality were unmatched. She also had a loving attention to detail that reflected how much she cared. Whether it was braiding her granddaughters’ hair with colorful ribbons or neatly labeling family members’ socks, undergarments, and linens with their initials, Julia showed her love in quiet, thoughtful ways that left lasting memories. Julia will forever be remembered for her quick wit, unwavering determination, and endless generosity. She had an incredible ability to make others feel valued. Birthdays, anniversaries, and special milestones were never forgotten. She had a soft spot for cheese and KFC—sharing that tradition with Cande on her birthday. She always made it a point to call or say a heartfelt prayer. Her blessings were constant, whether offered over the phone or lovingly spoken every time someone left her home. Julia believed in speaking love and protection into the lives of those she cared for, and her words carried a warmth that stayed with you long after. Despite the passing years and miles between, she nurtured her relationships with intention and grace, always thrilled to hear a familiar voice and reconnect with family, no matter how much time had passed. Her deep and enduring faith carried her through life. Julia’s relationship with the Virgen Mary and Emmanuel (Baby Jesus) was the foundation of her strength and resilience. She prayed with devotion and lived with grace, and that faith remained with her until her final breath. Julia leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith. She will be deeply missed by her siblings: Soledad Diaz, Ramon (Maria de Jesus) Diaz, Ester Diaz (Benjamin) Martinez, Miguel Diaz along with her children: Ramon (Polin) Diaz, Elena (Salvador) Urbina, Cande (Atanacio) Gonzalez, Monserrath (Jaime) Gonzalez, Laura Mayela (Raul) Rios, and Gonzalo II (Sandra) Hernandez. Her memory will also be cherished by her many grandchildren: Evelyn (Eric) Urbina, Jasmin (Ricardo) Miranda, Cynthia (Jaime) Urbina, Ricardo (Diana) Gonzalez, Jorge (Alondra) Gonzalez, Orlando (Valeria) Gonzalez, Arturo Gonzalez, Fatima Gonzalez, Solei Gonzalez, Korima Gonzalez, Gena Ortiz, Emily Ortiz, Victoria Rios, Gonzalo III Hernandez, Roman Hernandez, and Zitlaly Hernandez. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will continue to honor her life and legacy.
